Writers Workshop With Wade Rouse: Facing
Your Fear and Finding Your Voice
May 16-18, 2013
Fear is what stops most people from pursuing their passion
and following their dreams. Fear is also what inhibits most
authors from writing what calls to them, and keeps them from
finding their voice. Fear is, too often, a writer's worst
and final editor. Wade Rouse will lead participants through
an in-depth discussion on fear, how it is intertwined with
writing, and how it nearly stopped him. He will lead participants
through an intensive, emotional, and often life-changing writing
exercise that links these two vital elements: how you can
overcome your fear and find your own unique voice. This 3-day
workshop will be held May 16-18 at the Sherwood Forest Bed
and Breakfast. For more information please call Keith or Sue
at 800-838-1246.

seasons to explore what's fresh from the farm and new at the
market and includes niche farms in operation, including organic
fruits and vegetables, artisan cheese producers, wineries,
orchards, a bakery, and an earthenware potter. The cost ranges

who can cook a Spanish paella like you've never tasted before;
Tony & Dona Amato, the creative chefs behind one of
Saugatuck's favorite lunch spots, The Red Dock Cafe; Keaton
Stearns & Nick Von Ins, chefs extraordinaire of The Piper
Restaurant; and Matt Balmer, chef of one of the most happening
restaurants in the area, The Everyday People Cafe. These epicurean
wizards of gastronomic delights will amaze you in what will
be your own dining room, and you'll have the time of your
lives.
Here are the details: dinner is $50 per person, guests must
provide their own alcohol, and a 2-night minimum stay is required
(deposit is nonrefundable if cancellation is made within 60

Valentine's Day (weekend). Call Keith or Sue at 800-838-1246

A Culinary Mancation Marathon
Your hosts, Keith and Sue, will greet you upon check-in at the Sherwood Forest Bed and Breakfast, we'll show you your room (the Log Cabin Suite or the Tree Tops Room will have you jonesin' for a remodeling in your man-cave back home), give you the run down on the B&B, tell you where you are in relation to the area (no GPS needed here-the sun rises in the east and sets over Lake Michigan, one-half block to the west), we'll give you some great restaurant recommendations for your first night, so you don't have to do the hit-and-miss thing. (Everyday People Caf? is one of our favorite places on the planet-great wine list, awesome beer selection and real man food-they have a Gorgonzola Pork Chop and Grilled lamb chops that would have Tim the Tool Man Taylor screaming, "arr, arr, arr!"). The next day after breakfast, you'll join Chef Jim LaPerriere and start with a trip to the Eighth Street Farmers Market in Holland, one of the largest and most diverse markets in Western Michigan. While there, you will learn first hand what freshness is all about as Chef Jim guides you through the maze of fresh and local foods, purchasing ingredients for your cooking class and dinner later in the day.
From there, you'll visit the Montello Meat Market on Michigan Ave. where you'll experience a true "old-fashioned" butcher shop (men in aprons, giant refrigerators with hanging heifers). Before leaving, being the knowledgeable potent, powerful man that you are, you'll be able to pick out that red-blooded "slab" of beef for the dinner that night. Montello's uses the time-honored tradition known as dry-aging to naturally improve the tenderness and concentrate the beef flavor of their hanging sides of beef, which are professionally cut by the owner himself. Montello beef is hand-selected and grown naturally on local farms. Unlike today's conventional beef producers, Montello beef is never raised using hormones or antibiotics.
As you and your comrades work your way back into Saugatuck, you'll stop for a pint of "Oval Beach Blond Ale" (did someone say blondes?) at the Saugatuck Brewing Company. This is a small, intimate, brewery with the only "Brew On Premise" facility in Western Michigan. After selecting some of your favorites to enjoy at dinner, it's off to Chef Jim's kitchen where you'll strap on an apron and get a brief introduction to the evening's menu.
Of course, no Culinary Mancation Marathon would be complete
without a menu, so here it is.

Sherwood Forest Bed & Breakfast presents...
ADVANCE TO BOARDWALK
OR
CONQUER THE EARTH
MONOPOLY TOURNAMENT
November through April, book the entire bed and breakfast for two days or more and let us organize the game of a lifetime. Take a CHANCE on putting hotels on Boardwalk and Park Place while you mortgage your friends to the poor house. Here's the game plan--there will be six games total, two at the same time. Each game will have 5 players and will last 90 minutes. At the end of 90 minutes, the game referee will tally up who has how much loot on the official scorecard. Then we'll do a player shuffle, take a break, and resume the real estate turf wars. At the end of the third round, the scores will be tallied up and the WINNER, who will be the envy of all around, will receive a COMPLETE SET OF SHERWOOD FOREST GEAR. (The losers will each receive a Sherwood Forest coffee mug). Lunch will be catered during the recess. (A two-night minimum stay and 50% deposit are required. The tournament including lunch is $30 per person, plus the off-season room rate.)
RISK TOURNAMENT
November through April, book the entire bed and breakfast for two days or more, then grab your generals, officers, and soldiers, Jeeps, tanks, trucks, and planes, and we'll give your invincible armies their marching orders.
Who would've thought anyone from the Midwest could conquer the world? Go from Eastern Europe through the Ukraine to Mongolia to that country somewhere north of Japan that no one could ever pronounce. Remember the two front rule and violate it to the max with a 10 front rule. It will never be quiet on the western front.
Grab your secret decoder ring, here's your instructions. For a two-night stay with a one-day tournament, there will be two rounds of play, four games, two at a time. Each game will have 5 players and will last two hours. At the end of the first round, the official referee will tally up who has the most territories. The players will be rearranged according to score, lunch will be catered, and the game will resume after that. At the end of the second round, the player with the most territories will be the official ruler of the world and receive a COMPLETE SET OF SHERWOOD FOREST GEAR. (The losers will each receive a Sherwood Forest coffee mug). Lunch will be catered during the recess. (A two-night minimum stay and 50% deposit are required. The tournament and catered lunch is $30 per person, plus the off-season room rate.)
